Declaration on accessibility

Campingplatz Rühler Schweiz GmbH endeavors to make its website www.camping-ruehler-schweiz.de accessible in accordance with the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG), the Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV 2.0) and the European Directive (EU) 2016/2102. This accessibility statement applies to the website https://www.camping-ruehler-schweiz.de including the foreign language versions (Dutch and English).

Status of compatibility with the requirements

The website is partially accessible. The requirements of BITV 2.0 and WCAG 2.1 (level AA) are partially fulfilled. The restrictions and planned measures known to us are listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not barrier-free for the following reasons:

1. images and alternative texts (WCAG 2.1 – success criterion 1.1.1)

Numerous images on the website do not have meaningful alternative texts. The logo, header image, gallery images and decorative background images are sometimes delivered with empty or missing alt attributes. Some images only have title attributes with file name-like descriptions (e.g. “Abendrot_Weser_Desktop”, “Freibad_leer_Desktop”), which are not a useful alternative for assistive technologies. The Campground Map is integrated as a complex image that contains spatial information on the layout of the square, but has no detailed alternative text or an accessible textual equivalent.

2. videos without subtitles and text alternatives (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3)

Background videos are used as header elements on the homepage and on subpages (e.g. camping). These videos are played automatically and have neither subtitles nor an audio description or transcript. The content shown in the videos is therefore not accessible to users with visual or hearing impairments. In addition, there is no visible option to pause or stop the automatic playback (WCAG 2.1 – Success criterion 2.2.2).

3. navigation and orientation (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 2.4.1, 2.4.3, 1.3.1)

There is no so-called “skip link” (jump navigation) with which users can go directly to the main content of the page. The website contains several navigation areas (main navigation, sidebar with legal links, footer navigation) that are not consistently marked with ARIA landmark roles (e.g. role="navigation", role="main"). This can make it difficult for screen reader users to find their way around the site.

4. contrasts and color design (WCAG 2.1 – success criterion 1.4.3)

Text over video and image backgrounds, especially in the header areas, may not consistently meet the required contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. This affects, among other things, page headings and call-to-action elements that are displayed on changing image or video content. A comprehensive contrast test is being planned.

5. keyboard operability and focus display (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 2.1.1, 2.4.7)

The visible focus indicator for some interactive elements such as navigation entries, image gallery links and buttons is not recognizable clearly enough or is suppressed by CSS styles. The mobile hamburger menu and the language selection may not be fully operable via keyboard.

6. language labeling and multilingualism (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 3.1.1, 3.1.2)

The website is available in three languages (German, Dutch, English). The main language of the respective language version is presumably declared correctly. Individual foreign-language terms and proper names within the German version (e.g. “Anker106”, “Working Station”) are not marked with a corresponding lang attribute. The language selection links in the footer lack a supplementary text label for individual flag symbols, so that the function may not be clearly recognizable for screen reader users.

7. embedded third-party content (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 1.1.1, 4.1.2)

The website links to an external booking system (campalot.de) for the online reservation of pitches and sleeping barrels. The accessibility of this third-party system is not under our full control. The webcam page may also embed an external video stream that is not fully accessible.

8. image gallery (WCAG 2.1 – success criteria 1.1.1, 2.1.1, 4.1.2)

The image galleries on the homepage and the subpages link individual images to their large views. These image links do not have meaningful link texts or aria-label attributes. The lightbox function (large view in the overlay) may not be fully operable by keyboard and is not sufficiently labeled for assistive technologies.

Creation date and methodology

This declaration was created on March 20, 2026. The assessment is based on a technical analysis of the website (automated and manual visual inspection) using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, conformance level AA. This is a self-assessment.
