KulturMühle Buchhagen

6 km

The KulturMühle Buchhagen, a former grinding mill dating back to 1867, is located 3 km from the Münchhausen town of Bodenwerder, in an idyllic setting between hills, very close to the Weser cycle path, the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage route and in the immediate vicinity of an Orthodox monastery. Together with the former manor house, the “Long House” (former workers’ apartments), a barn and a stable, the mill is a listed building.

The KulturMühle Buchhagen monument is no longer a dusty, dilapidated, forgotten ruin: quite the opposite! In summer 2008, after six years of restoration work, the listed building was opened as KulturMühle Buchhagen (cultural center and open house). Since then, cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, courses and workshops have been held here regularly. The MühlenCafé serves home-baked cakes and hot drinks every Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm. The KulturMühle Buchhagen is run by the association Kaleidoskop e.V., which aims to enrich the Weserbergland region with a diverse cultural program.

A current program overview can be found on the KulturMühle website.

Stamp hike to the Duke Wilhelm Monument

9 km

This hiking treasure of the wild homeland can be discovered directly from our campsite: Stamp tour number 6 is the hiking trail “Auf den Weinberg zu Herzog Wilhelm” with a view over the Weser circuit from Rühle. It is amoderately difficult hike with mostly easy paths, which takes about 2.5 hours and is about 9 km long. A good basic level of fitness and surefootedness are required.

History: In gratitude for the liberation from the “Fronzins”, a monument was erected by the inhabitants of Rühl on the vineyard in honor and memory of the last reigning Duke Wilhelm zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg between 1908 and 1909, where stamp station 6 is located. Situated high up on the hill, it not only offers exciting insights into history, but also a fantastic view of the surrounding area. Ideal for a short break to enjoy the view of the Weser!
